| Southport RSL has a proud heritage and parallels the development of the local district. It has come a long way since the school of Arts was first erected on the site in 1882 and provided seating for 200 people, stage, dressing rooms and a "splendid" library. | In 1938 control of this building was handed to the RSL, who were to erect a modern brick building on the site in 1957. | Having undergone a series of major refurbishments and facelifts the club stands today as an impressive attribute to the rapidly developing Southport Suburb. |
Proposed Future Development
We would now like to introduce to you Victoria Cross Towers a unique and multifunctional development. A first for Australia, the development will uniquely incorporate inner city retirement and aged care accommodation in the right tower, alongside accommodation and schooling for international and local students in the left tower. The two toweres will operate with separate entrances, elevators, and facilities that are suited to the needs of the residents. Its highly contemporary design of 39 levels will create a dramatic landmark that intergrates successfully with the existing streetscape. |
